Ocampo delivers a Lighthouse Learning lecture that asks the question: after seventy years of mandated teaching, what are we really learning about José Rizal? Participants are invited to reflect on how Rizal has been presented, interpreted, and reimagined across generations. How should Rizal be understood, remembered, and engaged in classrooms today? This lecture culminates in a guided, small-group visit to the Rizal Room of the Rizal Library, the Special Collections, and selected Rizaliana from the University Archives, offering a rare opportunity to encounter Rizal through primary sources and archival materials.
Ambeth R. Ocampo is Sen. Gil J. Puyat Professor and Ateneo de Manila’s preeminent Rizal scholar. A former Chairman of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, he brings 40 years of experience to the teaching of the Rizal course.
